How to set up the Lobby TV


Feature Overview

The Lobby TV feature allows you to display essential community information on a large screen, providing residents with a convenient, glanceable view of what's happening in their community. With dynamic welcome messages, local weather updates, upcoming events, and a gallery of recent photos, the Lobby TV is designed to enhance resident engagement and keep them informed.

Overview of the Lobby TV App

The Lobby TV app displays essential community updates and information, including:

  • Dynamic Welcome Messages: A personalised message to welcome residents and visitors.
  • Local Weather Updates: Weather forecast for the local area.
  • Upcoming Community Events: A quick view of scheduled events, like yoga classes, social gatherings, and community activities.
  • Photo Gallery: A collection of recent photos from community events, construction updates, or other activities that residents might find interesting.

Adding a TV Profile in the System

To set up a new Lobby TV, you’ll need to create a TV profile in the system (requires Admin permissions). This process will generate a unique TV code required for signing in to the app. Follow these steps to add a new TV profile:

1. Navigate to the TV Setup Screen

Go to Settings > Lobby TV * Requires Admin permissions

2. Complete the TV Profile Form

  • Building: Select the building where this TV will be located.
  • TV Name: Enter a descriptive name for the TV, e.g., "Lobby Entrance" or "Community Lounge".
  • Primary and Secondary Colors: Choose colors that match your branding or community theme.
  • Location Name: Specify the general location for the weather (e.g., "Brisbane City").
  • Latitude and Longitude: Enter the coordinates for the TV location for weather.
  • Phone Number: Enter a mobile number to be used for verification when signing in to the TV app.
  • Upload Images:
    • Logo: Upload your community’s or building’s logo.
    • Background Image: This will be the background on the Lobby TV. Leave empty to use the default background.
    • Placeholder Gallery Image: This image will display when no gallery photos are available.

3. Set Active

Make sure to check the box for "Set is active" to enable this TV profile.

4. Save the Profile

Click on the Create button. Once saved, a unique TV code will be generated for this profile.

Setting Up the Apple TV Device

After creating the TV profile, follow these steps to physically set up the Apple TV device:

1. Connect the Apple TV

Plug the Apple TV device into the Lobby TV’s HDMI port and connect it to power.

2. Connect to Wi-Fi

On the Apple TV, go to Settings > Network.

Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password to connect.

3. Sign in to the Lobby TV App

Open the Generator TV app on the Apple TV.

  • Enter the TV Code generated from the profile setup.
  • Use your phone number associated with the account.
  • Set the Screen Angle: Adjust the display angle if necessary to fit your screen properly.
  • You’ll receive a verification code on your phone. Enter this code on the Apple TV to complete the sign-in process.

Note: To change the screen angle later, press the Back ("<") button on the remote to return to the sign-in screen and adjust as needed.

Preparing the TV Content

Once the Lobby TV is set up and signed in, ensure the content is ready for display:

  • Events: Ensure your events are up to date - the TV will show up to 18 upcoming events.
  • Gallery/Photos: To display recent event photos or community updates, upload images in the admin portal under Hub > Gallery. Remember to check the box for "Publish on TV" to ensure these images appear on the Lobby TV.
